What is the school's approach to safeguarding?
Widey Court Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

What support is available for pupils who struggle academically?
Through internal assessments, daily learning and observations of children learning, class teachers alongside the SENCO will identify children as needing extra support in specific areas. The class teacher will attend a clinic meeting with the SEND team to discuss concerns.
At this point, it is the class teacher’s responsibility to consider any modifications, which need to be made to the curriculum, or strategies, which need to be in place to support the child. This may be done with advice from the SENDCO or other members of the teaching team.
The progress of the child is carefully monitored by the class teacher through Additional Provision Tracker and at Pupil Progress Meetings. If the strategies put in place are not having an impact over a period of time, discussions will take place involving the class teacher, SENCO and parents, to make a decision about identifying the child with SEND.
The provision of Special Educational Needs at Widey Court Primary School is often identified by looking at the following criteria:
Communication and Interaction
Cognition and Learning
Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties
Sensory and/or physical needs
These may present with a varying degree of difficulty. The child may have a need in one or more of these four areas.
Where it is decided the child does have SEND, the child will be added to the school’s SEND register as needing SEN Support. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be written for the child and reviewed in collaboration with the class teacher and parents, using the “graduated Approach” (Assess, plan, do, review).
Please refer to our Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy.
